MAN'S best friends are having such a good time at a play school for dogs in Bridgwater that the business is expanding.

Kevin Wilkinson is adding a second venue of A Dogs Day Out in the town due to the success of the business, which he started in 2014.

With the St John Street care centre thriving, Kevin is planning to open a similar venture in Colley Lane next Monday (August 7).

He said: "It's the same sort of principle as a children's care centre except it's for dogs and it's more a play school for them and where they can come to socialise with other dogs.

"We've been going for nine years and the popularity is there for us to move into another centre in Bridgwater, giving the town another service option."

Before a dog can be taken on by A Dogs Day Out, it has to be assessed and will only be enrolled if it is suitable for the environment.

"It's a great environment, but it's not for every dog," added Kevin.

"We have a lot of regulars, with some people using it full time. Others bring their dogs along once, twice or three times a week.

"For some people, it's because they work full time. For others, it's simply because of how much their dogs get out of it.

"It's a stimulating place where the dogs can relax and play. When they are with their owners they are more in protection mode."

Kevin has put together a team of dog lovers working at the centre who are passionate about what they do.

"We all love dogs and that comes out in what we do," he added.

"The customers can see that at the door.

"The dogs love it here and get excited when they arrive, pushing the door open. It's really quite rewarding to see."

For busy owners who don't have the time to deliver their pooches to the centre,. there is a play school bus pick up service in Bridgwater and Burnham-on-Sea.

Owners from further away such as Taunton and Weston-super-Mare deliver their dogs themselves.

A Dog's Day Out is open 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday.
