BRIDGWATER Town Council has launched two town ranger roles that will “have an immediate positive visual impact within the town”.

The role has been introduced to help tackle complaints the council has received about overgrown footpaths, litter and dirty benches, signs and bins.

The town rangers' work will include litter picking, maintaining public public realm furniture and keeping footpaths clear.

The council says they will “ensure the town is a clean, safe and and attractive place to live”. They will use a fully electric van and equipment.

A spokesperson said: “Bridgwater Town Council received numerous complaints over the last 12 months with overgrown footpaths, litter on footpaths and communal areas, and dirty benches, public information signs and bins.

“Councillors wanted to take positive and proactive action and therefore created two roles to start tackling these issues.

“Equipment and the van they will use will be fully electric in line with the town council’s ambition to become greener and reduce our carbon footprint.”

The council will launch a reporting system from April to enable residents and businesses to report problems the rangers will be able to deal with.

The rangers will be on permanent contracts and work 37 hours per week. Interested people have until Wednesday, March 8 to apply

Bridgwater Town Council is also hiring a Centre Manager and Company Secretary for Victoria Park Community Centre.

The successful applicant will manage the centre and local hub and work with the board of directors to “ensure that the Centre is a vibrant, well managed facility for local residents and users”.
