POLICE are hoping to talk to a woman in yellow who may have vital information following Thursday's Post Office raid.

As revealed on www.somersetcountygazette.co.uk yesterday, scores of officers conducted a manhunt in the town yesterday after Priorswood Post Office was targeted.

Four people are now in custody.

Officers say that just before 1pm on Thursday, three men raided the Post Office in Priorswood and threatened staff with weapons.

The offenders smashed the partition windows before making off with cash.

The police helicopter was soon in the skies, circling over an area near Taunton Green, off Cheddon Road.

The road was closed on Thursday afternoon and several officers were on the scene.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Initially, police were appealing for help to find discarded clothing or items including a small claw hammer, black holdall or blue cash bag. This afternoon (Friday), police said they were keen to trace a woman seen in a yellow top as the raiders left the scene. The woman was stood by a pathway which leads from the rear of Selworthy School past the betting shop and fish and chip shop at Priorswood. A spokesman said: "It is thought the woman may have seen the offenders make their escape and have important information to help police enquiries." Detectives are also continuing to ask local people around the Priorswood Estate to keep a look out for discarded clothing which is believed to have been dumped by the offenders. Four men, two aged 36 years, 32 and 18 years, currently remain in custody at Taunton Police Station on suspicion of robbery.

This morning (Friday), a spokesman said: "Police are appealing for residents in the Priorswood area of Taunton to be on the look out for discarded clothing following an armed robbery.

"Four people are now in custody on suspicion of armed robbery, but police believe clothing may have been dumped in nearby residents' refuse bins shortly after 1pm on Thursday.

"Detectives are asking local people to check bins and report any clothing which is not theirs to officers at Taunton Police Station.

"It is believed local authority refuse collection is being carried out this morning in the area, so people will have put bins out."

Yesterday, eye witnesses told the County Gazette that fugitives had been spotted hiding in people's gardens in the area.

Priorswood Post Office was closed yesterday, today but the owners said they hoped to be open today (Friday).

Other shop staff in the area were rallying round to support the Post Office owners.
