FA Vase first round

Bashley 2, Bridgwater Town 3 (AET)

HARRY Horton scored an extra-time winner in his first game back at Bridgwater Town to send the Robins into the next round of the FA Vase at Bashley's expense.

Last season's captain rejoined the club this week on dual-registration terms with Tiverton Town, who he joined in the summer, and netted the decisive goal after the game had been locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

A quiet first half ended goalless, with Jake Viney's superb double save keeping the Robins level, but the second period was a livelier affair from the moment Bashley took a 54th minute lead from the penalty spot.

A comical own goal brought the Robins immediately back on terms as a backpass went straight in, and soon afterwards the visitors completely turned the game on its head as Syd Camper fired home to hand Town the lead.

The quickfire double was not enough to seal a victory in normal time, however, as Bashley equalised in the final 10 minutes to bring about the extra half an hour.

There were to be no penalties on the day so, with neither side wanting a midweek replay, both teams had reason to want the game wrapped up.

It was Bridgwater who managed to do just that through Horton's 93rd-minute strike and, despite Josh White's late sending off, the Robins held on to secure their place in the second round.
