A haulage firm is under investigation in Burtle said Somerset County Councillor David Huxtable in a report to Mark Parish Council following damage to roads on the Levels. He said the roads around the areas of the two villages had “stood up well” to the winter weather and the various diversions for sewage works. However he identified an issue raised by a number of residents anecdotally to the Mercury over lorries squashing the verges along the narrow roads in Mark, Burtle, Cote and Southwick.
He said: “Additional HGV traffic has been identified in Burtle. The site’s use is currently under investigation by the County Council and Mendip District Council and I am told a solution is imminent.”
The district councillor for Wedmore Will Human told the Mercury that potholes at the side of the road was a major problem caused by heavy traffic.
