The Mayor of North Petherton has spoken out ahead of the town's crisis public meeting over the A38 traffic jams.

Cllr Alan Bradford said the meeting will allow residents to raise questions over the way the authorities have planned the roadworks and to offer ideas to help lessen the disruption.

The Town Council said: "A public meeting has been arranged at the Community Centre North Petherton on Thursday, October 1, at 7.45pm, where officials from Somerset County Council will outline the major roadworks that will commencing shortly to improve the Huntworth roundabout and its approaches. This is your opportunity to find out what is happening and raise any issues of concern."

The roadworks are scheduled to end in mid-October - just as the work on changing the layout to Junction 24 begins. Highways say this work will continue through to next summer and will cause some delays. However they said they will mitigate the hold-ups over the carnival season in November.
