YOUNGSTERS made a real mess as a North Petherton nursery celebrated its first year anniversary with a ‘cake smash’ party.

Staff, parents and children came together for Buttercups Nursery’s first birthday party where, as well as enjoying the cake, there were games and activities.

Nicola Holman, who set up the nursery at the beginning of 2014, said: “They all had a great time – I think the children enjoyed having free access to the cakes and were able to make as much mess as they liked.

“They all sang Happy Birthday and blew out the candle on the cake.

“It was good fun.”

Over the last 12 months the nursery, which began by looking after seven children, has rapidly grown in size and now provides day care for more than 60 youngsters.

Nicola, who has five children of her own, said that even though the first year had been challenging, it has been an enjoyable experience.

“It has been hard work but it’s always been my dream to own a nursery and it’s so rewarding.

“I’d like to thank all the staff who have helped and supported me during the first year.

“We still have a few spaces so we’re hoping that during our second year we’ll continue to grow.”
