THE wife of a Bridgwater man who died earlier this year is holding a sponsored waxing event to raise funds for the nurses who helped care for him.

Lindsey Baker of Alderney Road, Bridgwater, and her team of ‘waxers’ will be inviting men to have their body hair waxed away to raise money for the Bridgwater District Nursing Team.

Lindsey’s husband, Lee, was given only weeks to live when he was diagnosed with cancer in June.

The popular 28-year-old bricklayer was allowed home five days after the diagnosis so the couple could spend what remaining time they had left together.

Lindsey, 29, told the Mercury: “Without the district nurses my husband wouldn’t have been able to come home after his diagnosis and we wouldn’t have been able to spend that last few months together.

“We got married the week after he came home and had our one-yearold daughter, Lillie, christened.

“If it wasn’t for the nurses, Lee’s final wishes wouldn’t have been fulfilled.

“They do such a fantastic job so we want to try and get as much support as we can.”

So far, Lindsey, a qualified beauty therapist, has 35 brave men willing to undergo the painful treatment to raise money and hopes more will come forward for the event.

Lindsey added: “We’ve been planning a fundraiser for a while for the nurses and thought what better way to raise money than by inflicting pain on men.”

There will also be a raffle on the day which Lindsey is hoping will help raise even more money.

She added: “We’ve had so many great prizes donated and it’s great to see how generous people can be when it’s such a good cause.”

The sponsored waxing will take place at The Commercial Inn from 2pm on Saturday, November 29.
