WORKERS at Hinkley Point A got on their bikes to raise £6,000 for the charity Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE).

More than 50 cyclists took part in the charity ride, which involved cycling two different routes over two separate days and finished with a celebration event.

The first route on day one took the more experienced cyclists from Hinkley Point to Seaton in Devon, on a 90-mile cycle ride while others took the shorter 40 mile bike route to Taunton.

Cyclists were supported by a raft of workers from Hinkley Point A and managed to combat high winds and rain to complete the first day.

The cyclists then went on to complete a further day of cycling with two more routes taking them over steep hills and out towards the Somerset Levels.

A celebration event was held at the Friendly Spirit in Cannington after the bike ride to raise even more money for the charity.

So far £6000 has been raised from the event with more money being added every day.

Hannah Taylor, co-ordinator of the event, said: “We’ve been running the charity bike ride for the last three years with great success.

“There were a record number of people who signed up for the bike ride this year and the money we’ve raised so far really reflects this.”
