A HEAVENLY presence will be at Bridgwater Carnival, thanks to the performers from Great British Carnival.

Beautiful, breathtaking comets, otherworldly costumed characters and funky live music will be part of Bridgwater Carnival, entertaining audiences along the route.

Last year, Great British Carnival’s cheeky monkeys, tree frogs and skeletal horses were a hit with Bridgwater crowds so this year look out for more giant puppets and costume-pieces.

There will be samba-funk-soul music on Great British Carnival’s truck – a moving stage driving the infectious sounds of band Rhythms of the City through Bridgwater’s streets.

“We were so well received by last year’s audiences,” said Teresa Askew, artistic director of Great British Carnival.

“It is great to see our performers interacting with the Bridgwater crowds.

We get such a warm response from them.

It’s a privilege to be taking part in this historic event.”

Great British Carnival is a platform for carnival arts, presenting the best of the country’s costume, music, dance and carnival arts.

Performers taking part in Bridgwater include Shademakers UK and Mandinga Arts, energetic, hilarious performers and creators of breathtaking, elaborate large-scale costumes.

In July, Great British Carnival staged a massive event in front of 50,000 people in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park helping to celebrate the midway point between the London Olympics in 2012 and Brazil’s Rio Olympics in 2016.

The Bridgwater Squibbers were part of Great British Carnival at the park, igniting their squibs in the event’s spectacular finale in front of thousands and demonstrating their illuminating and unique carnival art to the nation’s capital.

“Now it’s time for us to continue our partnership with Bridgwater and perform in this great, British carnival,” said Teresa.
