EXPANSION plans at a primary school in Wembdon have been approved, meaning it could have the capacity to take 90 more children in the future.
St George’s Primary School has won the go-head from Somerset County Council to build four new classrooms to meet growing demand for places.
The school was allocated £3.5million for basic need school places last year to increase its capacity to 420 places.
Last September, the school put up a temporary building to meet a swell in the number of places needed in the catchment area, but this is no longer sustainable as there is an “urgent need to address the shortfall of places”.
If the school goes ahead with the project, the extension will comprise three more classrooms and a replacement classroom, plus classroom storage, pupil cloakrooms, toilets, a therapy room and a group room.
