These new traffic islands are supposed to be cycle friendly. But unfortunately if I'm going from Broadway to North street I'm now sandwiched between two rows of cars both going the same way or take the risk of getting knocked off by cars turning left to west street. If I'm going from town to west street I now get cut up and pushed into cars from traffic heading for a traffic island . Nice one planners!

The traffic was bad even at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Why can't the flipping council stop sodding about with things that aren't broke and do something that will actually help.... like a southern relief by pass to stop the traffic coming into town in the first place.

So therefore why did they not replace like-for-like instead of fannying around at great expense and re-configure the whole junction?

Just wait until they start at the end of Taunton Rd. The plan there is to reduce to TWO lanes in towards town, then make it TWO lanes out of Taunton Rd. This will be between canal bridge & the traffic lights by the filling station, this will be instead of the current three lanes in & one out.

Well "Tis True" Think of it this way......... If we were told what they were planning for the Penel Orlieu ****-up, we would have thought the same meaning "What the hell? No way, they wouldn't do such a thing".

Re Taunton Rd I've seen the plans as is all part of the HPC "tweaking" of Bridgwater in order to fast-track the EDF traffic and instead of a decent & proper northern by-pass.

Has anybody noticed they are actually halfing the size of one of the lanes from the direction of North street to Penel Orlieu. how this is meant to work now i do not know. If a lorry or car caravan or in fact anything wider than normal wants to go straight on it will straddle both lanes creating a hold up. However I can imagine someone from highways taking to trouble to visit B/Water to see what all the fuss is about, and you can bet they will turn up on fair week.
