A 50-YEAR-OLD has been arrested in Somerset on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was found by a busy A-road with a suspected stab wound.

Police were called to an area of the A30 near Lewannick in Cornwall at around 7.30pm yesterday (June 2) after reports of a man injured by the carriageway.

Officers attended and found a man with a chest injury, believed to have been caused by a stab wound.

The man, in his 20s, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital for treatment. His condition is described as stable and he has not suffered any life threatening or life changing injuries.

Detectives later arrested a 50-year-old man from Tiverton on the M5 in Somerset and was taken into custody in Bridgwater, where he remains.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Officers believe the victim and suspect were involved in a minor traffic collision on the A30 involving a white BMW and a silver coloured Vauxhall Astra convertible before the altercation.

"We are keen to hear from any witnesses who saw either vehicle or the two men in the area to contact them on 101 quoting reference 715 of June 2, 2014."
