DRIVERS who use council car parks in Sedgemoor can soon pay for their parking without franticly trying to find spare change.

Sedgemoor District Council began introducing a cashless parking system within its car parks from March 26 to provide people with a simpler way to pay.

The ‘phone and pay’ system, provided by Bemrose Mobile, will be rolled out in all of the eighteen district-council run pay and display car parks. The existing pay and display machines which will remain in place.

Motorists will benefit from features such as text confirmation, a reminder text when a parking session is due to expire and the option to top-up their session. Cllr John Swayne, portfolio holder for community, said: “We hope it will encourage motorists to stay for longer in the town centre.”

Car parks include: Eastover Shoppers (Barclay Street), Mount Street (East and West), Northgate, Eastover short stay, Market Street and Dampiet Street.

To use the new service, pre-register a vehicle online at www.phoneandpay.co.uk, download the app by searching ‘Phone and Pay parking’, call 01823-210302 or text the vehicle registration number to 07786 207708.

Be warned, this also allows the wardens to be alerted by text when you have run out of time to get to your car quicker than you!!

Be advised - you can be alerted by text if your parking session is due to expire and top up if need be... and beat the parking attendants at their own game!

I've used this system on www.MyRingGo.com for a long time now and have never had a ticket as a result (not excluding the one I got in Bridgend last year and successfully challenged - I know I paid and the attendant didn't check before slapping the ticket on my 'screen...)

We haven't had "wardens" in Bridgwater for years BTW...

Traffic Wardens,or whatever their new job description is,returned to Bridgwater about a year ago. That is why it is now possible to park in the high street as people feel they cannot now stay there as long as they like.
