FIREFIGHTERS had to wade through floodwater in the middle of the night - to pour buckets of water on a burning caravan.
The fire service received a call about a caravan on fire between Burrowbridge and West Lyng, at around 12.30am today.
The caravan was just off the A361, which has been closed for several days because of flooding, and there was no way the fire crew from Bridgwater sent to put out the flames could reach the scene by road.
So they donned dry suits and made their way on foot, using buckets of water to extinguish the fire.
The caravan was badly damaged and police are investigating.
