THE colder weather is upon us and Somerset County Council’s gritting team has already been out in force.

The council has about 7,000 tonnes of salt stockpiled plus 23 gritting lorries all ready to keep Somerset’s 900-mile road network free of ice this Christmas and New Year.

I agree with CHOPPY, there was not even a frost forecast, A total waste of "OUR" money, I think whoever ordered the gritters out, ought to pay the full cost out of their own pocket!

Spot on!

Probably due to health & safety the council workmen are not allowed on the roads in case they are involved in an accident whilst applying grit/salt.

Crazy. Why put n the roads now when all it does is get washed away?
