GOLFERS got into the swing of the fundraising effort to build a vital new fence at the home track of the Somerset Rebels Speedway team.

Brean Golf Club was the venue for the event, which was contested by 17 teams, and club professional Andrew March was among those taking part.

Rebels captain Jason Doyle and rider Kyle Newman dropped in to lend their support to around 70 golfers who took to the course and raising £3,500.

The club is raising money to build a vital new safety fence to meet tough new speedway regulations for the new season.

The winning team was the Brean-based quartet Pro Plus Us with superb 87 points featuring Roy Baker, Martyn Cahill, Stuart Wills and Paul McLanaghan.

More fundraising events are planned over the coming months including a darts evening with Somerset stars Justin Pipe and Gary Anderson on November 27.
