AN outstanding young oboist praised by the world-famous conductor Sir Simon Rattle is to perform at Cossington Village Hall on Saturday, May 26 at 7.30pm.

Oboist Peter Facer will be joined by the pianist James Sherlock in a mixed programme of music ranging from Handel to Britten and concluding with a Blues composition.

Considered to be one of the most talented oboists of his generation, Peter Facer has just been reselected to perform with the European Union Youth Orchestra as one of only a dozen Britons amongst the 120 chosen musicians.

The proceeds of the recital, sponsored by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Recital Scheme, will support the work of Cossington Concerts’ Fund for Young Musicians.

Since being set up in early 2008, the fund has helped around 50 Somerset youngsters purchase instruments and afford to take part in specialist courses.

Julie Anne Sadie, artistic director at Cossington Concerts, said: “We regard it as a privilege to present talented young artists such as Peter Facer from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Recital Scheme, not least because of their huge zest for music-making.”

Tickets for the concert are priced at £15 and are available by contacting Marian Curry on 01278-683777. Free tickets are available for students under 19-years-old if booked in advance.
