IT'S one of the few pieces of music that gets a standing ovation even before it is finished.

Apparently King George II was so overcome when he first heard Handel's Messiah that he rose to his feet. When the king stood up, so did everyone else.

Now, standing for the Hallelujah Chorus has became a tradition and one that Bridgwater Choral Society is delighted to follow.

Handel depicts the various moods of the vivid, dramatic narrative – joyfulness and sorrow, tragedy and exaltation – with a lightness and vitality that are forever fresh.

It’s this vitality and freshness that Bridgwater Choral Society, with professional soloists and orchestra, conducted by Iain Cooper, will bring to their performance of Handel’s Messiah.

St Mary’s Church, Bridgwater. Saturday November 28 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 reserved, £8 unreserved, under-16s free, available from www.ticketsource.co.uk or on the door.
