BRIDGWATER Pantomime Society is celebrating the end of another successful set of performances after wowing audiences with ‘Aladdin and his Lamp’.
After a bit of cast shuffling due to Lauren Singleton (Genie of the Ring) being admitted to hospital on the opening day, society producer/director Margaret Robinson swapped roles to play the Genie while chorus member Karen Rainey was drafted in to play Margaret’s role of the Empress at an hour’s notice.
Both did very well in these roles for the first four performances until Lauren returned for the Tuesday night show.
Mike Bolton played a commanding Emperor of China with Margaret or Karen (depending on when you watched the show) as the Empress.
Zoe Pike played Princess Jasmin’s graceful Royal Handmaiden, May Ling.
Samuel Long’s Genie of the Lamp made the perfect magical servant whilst Lauren Singleton’s Genie of the Ring was the perfect foil of Abanazer.
The show was produced and directed by Keith and Margaret Robinson and Richard J. Porter.
Keith and his painting team spent 2014 painting and constructing scenery; Margaret spent most of 2014 purchasing costumes, tweaking the script, finding the music and teaching the cast/chorus with three months of company singing; while Richard was in charge of publicity and programme design as well as helping with costumes.
The production team will now have a short break before preparing for ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ which is scheduled for January 2016.
