Quick-fire five with... Bridgwater Panto actor and writer, Richard Porter
9:38am Thursday 2nd January 2014 in What's On
QUIRKY and frosty comedy, The Snow Queen, is Bridgwater Pantomime Society’s Town Hall show this January.
Long-standing actor, Richard Porter, is part of the dynamic trio of writers who have given Hans Christian Andersen’s dark folklore original its fresh, funny makeover.
Along with the Snow Queen, there’s the Summer Queen, and Jack Frost too… but just which side is he on?
Mercury entertainment reporter, DAISY BLACKLOCK, grabbed a quick-fire five minutes with Richard, to get a few of his favourites…
Favourite thing about the New Year?
We know the show’s only a couple of weeks away. It’s exciting and scary – we’ve got to make sure all our lines are learned and everything’s ready.
Favourite thing about panto?
Camaraderie. Everyone gets on and it’s all a big laugh. There’s a big family atmosphere, which I really love.
Favourite thing about this year’s production?
It’s different; something new for us. It’s generating a lot of laughs in rehearsals, so hopefully that’ll translate.
Favourite thing about Bridgwater Pantomime Society?
Quite a lot of us have been in the society for quite a long time. I’ve been in it for almost 30 years. You know whether it’s their birthday or anniversary… it’s like an extended family. We always stick to a traditional formula – lots of comedy, interaction with the audience. We try and put on shows we’d want to see ourselves.
You’re playing Ig, one half of comedy duo Ig-Loo. What’s your favourite thing about Ig?
It’s great! I was a baddie last year, and I’m an idiot this year. And I get to play opposite my friend Kim, we’re having a whale of a time.
o THE Snow Queen runs from Friday January 24, to Saturday, February 1, excluding January 27, and tickets are £10/£8 children and OAPs on 07939- 926449.
