Prime & Untested Forward Cattle (120): UTM (114) & OTM Prime Cattle (6): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a slightly increased entry again met another strong trade, despite continued reports of downward pressure on deadweight quotes. Lean steers and butchers heifers especially dear. One or two cattle presented over fat which needs to be avoided if possible. When balls of fat appear each side of the tail head it’s too late.

Top was 217.5ppk for an exceptional red Limousin steer (22m, 574kg & FA) from Mr RE Webber, Stringston, who sold another similar (23m, 630kg & FA) at 202.5ppk. High yielding steers from Mr J & Mrs J Meaker & Son, Langport, being tucked up and fasted and of excellent conformation met calls of 210.5 (Lim) 206.5, 205.5 and 198.5ppk (Blues). Native steers peaked at 198.5ppk for an Angus (sire) from Mr PRS & Mrs EB Scott, Axbridge, who sold another at 195.5ppk.

Top was 153.5ppk for a grand 888kg Charolais from Mr TJ Richards, Congresbury. Young slip Blues from Messrs C Tripp & Son, Highbridge hit 152.5, 138.5 and 136.5ppk. Further Charolais cows at 151.5 and 133.5ppk from Messrs TL Greenshields & Son, Hawkchurch. An extremely shapely Blue cow from Mr R & Mrs J White & Son, Wellisford hit 149.5ppk. A young Limousin from Mr RW Darby, Bridgwater rose to 137.5ppk. Native cows peaked at 133.5ppk for an Angus from Mr P & Mrs J House & Sons, Kingston St Mary.

Sucklers sold to a tremendous £1,363.08 for the Charolais from Mr TJ Richards. The Blue from Mr R & Mrs J White & Son returned at £1,121.25. Messrs TL Greenshields & Son’s Charolais achieved £1,102.92.

Dairy cows as dear as seen to 137.5ppk for a young (49m) Holstein from Mr CG & Mrs WL Rich & Son, Yarcombe, who sold an older Holstein at 132.5ppk. A younger Ayrshire (67m) from Mr MA & Mrs NR Bowditch, Crewkerne met a call of 135.5ppk, as did a 74m Holstein from Messrs DJ & Hill & Partners, Wellington. A Montbeliarde from Messrs CR House & Sons, Glastonbury rose to 132.5ppk. Other Holsteins at 132.5ppk were from Mr DC Dennis & Son Ltd, Ivybridge and Mr SJ Perry, East Worlington. Many good meat black and whites 120 to 131.5ppk. All Holsteins averaged 115.3ppk. Very plain 90ppk plus. Only exceptionally plain below 90ppk.
