Plenty to delight at monthly antiques sale

CAPTIVATING lots of all shapes and sizes delighted sale-goers at Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s monthly antiques auction at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton.

Collectors treated to tiny temptations in auction

LAWRENCES’ first sale in their week of Spring Fine Art auctions comprised silver and objects of Vertu and, with brisk bidding online as well as in the room, the vast majority of the 475 lots found eager buyers. There were many strong results to delight vendors, too.

      Beswick bidders saddle up

THE CHARTERHOUSE two-day May auction on the 18 and 19 includes 100s of Beswick horses and other animals.

Commercial dairy cows to 1850gns at Somerset dispersal

AUCTIONEERS Greenslade Taylor Hunt drew an excellent crowd for TE Cary & Son's on farm Dispersal at Shepton Mallet. The trade topped at 1850gns for an autumn calved heifer that was confirmed back Incalf for this autumn. This heifer was sold to a neighbouring farmer who also took home a smart 2nd calver at 1750gns that was also due back in the autumn. Despite over 60% of the herd being 5th Lactation or more, including a large number of foreign cows, the demand continued all through the day with the strongest trade being for the autumn calvers, with others at 1700gns, 1650gns twice. The Aberdeen Angus bull “Maplejack Frazer” sold for 2000gns, selling to a purchaser who travelled from Swindon. Served Heifers due in the autumn by “Sherdon Irresistible” sold to 770gns, Bulling heifers by “Laurelhill Classic” to 700gns x2, with Yearlings to 580gns and Calves to 360gns. 28 different purchasers from across the south west took the opportunity to purchase on the day and created the following impressive averages: Cows and Heifers in milk £1109; Served Heifers £749; Bulling Heifers £678; Yearling and Younger Heifers £424; Heifer Calves £334.
