Ashcott & Shapwick 257-9 lost to Taunton St Andrews 261-7 by three wickets

A BRILLIANT century from Steve Tinnion wasn’t enough to prevent Ashcott & Shapwick from a dramatic final over defeat to Taunton St Andrews.

Tinnion scored 101 off 122 balls, including 15 fours and one six, as Ashcott posted 257-9 – their highest total of the season – but former Somerset player Keith Parsons replied in similar vein with 113 as Saints crawled home with a ball to spare.

Ashcott lost Harte (14), Edmunds (13) and Coppell (16) early in proceedings as they found themselves on 66-3, and when Karmarkar (5) and Ben Rudge (9) also departed the hosts were again in trouble, but Tinnion stood firm and with Wayne Spencer (31) he set about rebuilding the innings.

Spencer departed with the score on 200 after an 87-run partnership, but Tinnion continued on his way to register a patient ton his side needed desperately.

Saints’ reply got off to a flying start with Parsons in particular plundering the bowling to all parts.

The score had passed 100 when Nayan Karmarkar (2-36) accounted for Jenkins for 20.

Dangerman Regan came and went in quick time as Karmarkar claimed his second wicket, but Bertie Preston’s knock of 49, in partnership with Parsons, took Saints to the brink.

Parsons passed his century before departing to the bowling of Coppell (4-51), but Ashley Grundy hit the winning runs from the penultimate delivery to condemn Ashcott to another defeat.
