“THEY paved paradise and put up a parking lot.”
Remember the song and what happened to the trees?
Well Sedgemoor District Council, in cahoots with Somerset County Council, authorised the felling of a magnificent, very old and large Cedrus Atlantica Glauca (Blue Atlas Cedar) tree on the development site situated at the former Blake Hospital/Enterprise Centre, at Northgate, and within the town conservation area.
The demise of the tree came about on November 3, and the reason? A car park!
This tree, along with several others, was subject to a tree preservation order in the failed Tesco planning application. Then designated as tree T009, two others, numbered T001 and T002, remain. But, for how long? Beware of phase two of the development.
