THE Sedgemoor Rugby Development Centre is hoping to build on the success of last season’s programme when it kicks off this month.
The centre launched in January, 2014, and is made up from a partnership between Bridgwater & Albion RFC, North Petherton RFC, Bridgwater College and Rugby Football Union – and is a player development project for male players aged under 15 and under 19.
The project provides structured, high quality coaching to local male rugby players in years 10 and 11, together with additional training for players who are part of Bridgwater College’s Team BC Rugby programme.
The sessions are delivered at Bridgwater College by Simon Martin, lead RFU coach, alongside Matt Hastie, of Bridgwater and Albion RFC, and Lloyd Williams, of North Petherton RFC.
The coaching curriculum is to be focused around individual technical development, together with physical development through the use of Bridgwater College’s Health and Fitness suite.
Sessions are be free of charge, aside from a heavily reduced one-off £5 gym membership fee (usual price £30), which enables players to access Bridgwater College’s Health and Fitness suite as part of this programme on unlimited occasions up until Tuesday, December 9.
Players are required to meet at the Sports Hall Reception at 4.45pm, with a drink and appropriate playing kit, indoor and outdoor footwear and equipment.
Hamish Morton, Further Education RFU Development Officer, said: “We hope the Sedgemoor Rugby Development Centre will establish mutually beneficial links between two proactive rugby clubs and Bridgwater College, as well as with local schools in the area.
“Providing quality coaching, advice and support to young players in these key age groups will develop them into more capable individuals and help retain them within the game, both at College and at their rugby clubs.”
Players of all levels and experiences are welcome.
