ENMORE Park retained the Avalon Seniors League in a close final against local rivals Taunton & Pickeridge, played at Long Sutton Golf Club.

They had commanded the West Division during the summer matches, so went into the final as favourites.

With soft fairways making the course unusually long, Jeff Saunders & Rob Fear earned the first point with a resounding 7 & 6 victory, followed by Steve James & Wayne Hawley.

Meanwhile, Matt Lazenby & Martyn Clapp were pipped on the 18th green after a closely-fought game.

League captain Mike Rossiter and Chris Marsh were at the 19th green when news came through that Paddy Maclennan & Ronnie Brown had won 2 & 1 to secure the winning points.

Hence, Enmore won the cup for the second time in its first two years.

AT Brean Golf Club, Paul McLanaghan claimed victory in the Bogey Trophy on Saturday.

The top spot in competitions had eluded him for longer than he cared to remember prior to his success, but he beat the course by four to win this event for a second time, previously having won in 2012, as he ended the day one clear of Eamonn Wynne, with Stewart Garrett taking third.

Two more trophies were awarded on Sunday, with both running in conjunction with playing of the October Medal.

The Fred Baker Shield is awarded to the player with the best nett score in the top two divisions, and this was won by Ian Adams.

He recorded a nett 63 to win Division 2 at a canter from captain elect Mike Carter, who finished with a nett 66.

That score was matched by Stewart Garrett, but he had to settle for his second third-placed finish of the weekend after a countback.

Bob Smith won the Stanley Trophy for the best score in Division 3, with his nett 67 seeing him beat his rivals by two shots on his way to victory.

Vic Burnell was runner-up to Smith and Jordan Hills finished third on 72.

The closest result of the day came in Division 1 as Tom Broom’s nett 65 was matched later in the day by Jason Kidley.

Kidley had the better back nine of the pair to take the top spot, with Russell Shaw placed third on 69.

Following on from his win in the September Seniors Stableford, John Cranley collected the October Seniors Medal on Tuesday.

Yet again the result was decided on a countback as he won on the better back nine from Pete Douglas after the pair had scored nett 71s in Division 1.

Ron Edmondson finished third with his nett 74.

In Division 2 there was a first win at Brean for Bill Marlow, as his nett 72 was good enough to take the glory.

Marlow, who only joined the club in September, won by one from Vic Burnell, with Bill Griffin taking third a few shots back.
