Bridgwater A 4, Westbury & UB C 3

BRIDGWATER started the brightest, and opened the scoring following a quick break, as Tom Willis played a give-and-go before slipping it past the keeper.

Westbury levelled with a good strike from the top of the D, then took the lead.

But Bridgwater fought back, winning a penalty flick which Will Kelly calmly converted, and they led at half time thanks to Aaron Turner’s goal.

In the second half the game opened up and Tom Willis grabbed his second goal to make it 4-2.

Westbury pulled one back, causing a nervous few minutes for Bridgwater, but the hosts held on.

BRIDGWATER 3rds took on Firebrands 4ths, who were on zero points so far and opened well.

Keeper Dom Rauch was kept busy, but could not prevent a goal in each half for the home side.

Chard B 2, Bridgwater C 0

THE Men’s 4ths travelled south with confidence after last week’s resounding victory, but came across a Chard third team which seemed to be playing better than their seconds.

Bridgwater were unlucky to lose 2-0, and are confident of being back to winning ways soon.

CHRISTIAN Durkin made his debut in goal, with Mark Beebe and Stephen Miller also making their first 5th XI appearances.

The game was dominated by the dynamic midfields of both teams, but a piece of individual brilliance from Simon Burland put Bridgwater ahead.

East Devon deservedly drew level, but Bridgwater hit back and re-took the lead from a short corner, which James Kettlewell put away from a Steve Wilson injection.

After the break, Durkin made two top saves but East Devon’s pressure told and they equalised.

The hosts were not to be denied, though, as they scored through Rowan James and held on for the remaining eight minutes.

Rowan James just pipped Mark Beebe in the man-of-the-match vote.

BRIDGWATER Under-14s played at Taunton Vale in a Somerset junior clubs tournament on Sunday.

With Oscar and Edward Taylor on goalkeeper duties for the first time and debuts for Kit Hockey, Tim Wheaton and Hannah Bremner, the learning curve was steep.

They opened up against Cheddar, who brought on some of their stronger boys, and despite some Morgan Edwards heroics they got three quick goals.

The second game against Bruton saw Tyler open Bridgwater’s account but the speedy Bruton forwards broke through to score.

The final game saw Bridgwater pitted against Yeovil, who scored first, Kit Hockey equalised, but Yeovil nicked another.
