Middlezoy Rovers 0, Ilminster Town 0

MIDDLEZOY hosted newly-promoted Ilminster on Saturday, in a game they were hoping to pick up three points from.

Ilminster's game plan was clear from the outset, with long balls at every opportunity up to their big centre forward, who was causing Zoy's centre-backs some trouble in the early stages.

The game was scrappy and not pretty, with neither side creating very many chances.

The visitors' approach was direct, whereas Zoy tried to build from the back, but their build-up play was far too slow, and so creativity was lacking.

The only chances of note in the first half were a couple of goalmouth scrabbles from Zoy set-pieces, and both goalkeepers had very little to do as the half ended 0-0.

Unfortunately it didn’t really get much better after the break, with the game being played out in a similar style to the first half.

A couple of early changes for Zoy saw Craig Wright and Charlie Lintell enter the game, and it was Wright who nearly won it for the hosts, but his effort went inches wide.

The rest of the half was mainly controlled by the home side, but they failed to create any decent opportunities and had poor deliveries from set pieces.

The game ended goalless, leaving Middlezoy fifth in the Premier Division table, and next Saturday (October 21, ko 3pm) sees them travel to 11th-placed Shirehampton.
