Bridgwater edged this exciting encounter, which was played at a frenetic pace and littered with mistakes, writes Tony Pomeroy.

The outcome could have been different, however, if Chinnor winger, Seb Corpe, had held onto a pass right on the home line in the final minutes.

If converted, that would have given Chinnor, who started the day level on points with Bridgwater, a draw and a four-try bonus point.

As it was, Bridgwater claimed the win and the four-try bonus.

For Bridgwater, among the forwards, Matt Hastie, Dan Kemmish, Rob Burnell and Steve Hunt stood out.

The scrums were reasonably solid and the line-outs were fairly even.

In the backs, George Williams and Dominik Kohler generally linked well at half-back and Will Topps was his usual lively self. Bridgwater took the lead on five minutes, when Sam Osborne went over for an unconverted score, following good work by Hastie, Hancock and Topps.

Their second came when Dominik Griffin took a quick penalty on halfway and fed James Austwick who crashed through to score another unconverted try in the corner.

Chinnor hit back with a converted try after the bounce of the ball defeated George Williams and Pip Seymour grounded for the visitors.

Bridgwater extended their lead soon after, when Williams made a super break, and the ball reached Topps, who scythed through the defence to score wide out on the left. This time, Williams converted superbly.

Chinnor reduced the arrears with their second converted try, under the posts, but another Williams penalty made it 20-14 to Bridgwater at half-time.

Further chances for both sides came and went after the break but another Williams penalty gave Bridgwater daylight before the home side sealed the game when livewire flanker Rob Burnell crashed over in the corner for an unconverted try.

Chinnor reduced the deficit with a superb score from centre Matt Goode but Bridgwater held on, thanks to Corpe’s gaffe at the death.

The result saw Bridgwater climb two places to third. Next up is a trip to bottom side Cleve.
