FROZEN pitches meant eleven games were called off in the Silver Street Volkswagen Taunton and District Saturday Football League on Saturday, but those that played on saw some top footballing talent despite icy conditions.

In the Rowbarton Charity Cup Quarter final, Alcombe Rovers were the hosts against Cannington Colts.

Neither side were able to break the deadlock within the 90 minutes and with the night drawing in, the referee deemed it too dangerous to play the required extra time and abandoned the game, which will have to be replayed.

Division One saw Dulverton Town moved to the top of the table after taking the opportunity of other teams not playing to secure three points by beating Nether Stowey 1-0 thanks to Marc Oram's goal.

Middlezoy Rovers and Porlock shared the points in a 2-2 draw, on target for Rovers were Andy Smith and Aaron Philips and replying for the away side were Matt Drakely and Adam Sparks.

In Division Two, Westonzoyland picked up their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Watchet Town. Anton Bolton, Callum Butt and James Taylor all scored, while Ben Saddington got both of Watchet's goals.

A Division Three game between Highbridge Town Reserves and North Petherton saw a 2-1 result. Chris Jays and Graham Furze both scored for Highbridge while Pethy's hotshot Craig Wright replied.

Appletree moved up to second following their 3-1 away win at Redgate, Duncan Lane scored twice and Sandy Patel once, Ben Carp replied for Redgate.

In Division Four, Stogursey consolidated their runners-up spot with a 4-3 home win over Staplegrove Colts, but they did not have things all their own way.

Although Adam Smith put Grove ahead early doors, Stogursey not only came back level, but by half time were leading 3-1.

After the break Grove players got themselves back in the game again with two more goals from Adam the second made by player manager Jon Forward. He slipped the offside trap and ran faster than his little legs have ever run before, trying to lose his chaser just to release the ball at the critical minute to Adam to finish.

In the last fifteen minutes, both sides had chances to win the game but it was the home side that took the points with a last minute winner. On target for Stogursey were Matthew Tooze with two goals and Dean Marchent and Mark Webb with one each.

Milverton scored five goals last week but went away with just one point on Saturday. They scored five again on Saturday and managed to secure all three points beating Rhode Lane Wanderers 5-4.

Milverton went 2-0 up early on thanks to Ed French who was the home side's hero with a total four goals, Ross Sweeney provided the fifth.

Rhode Lane kept coming back and were always in with a shout, Ben Patrick replied with two for them and Shaun Roberts and Jason Ball added the other two.

The two new boys North Petherton Reserves and Nether Stowey Reserves, who have only managed one win all season between them, inevitably shared the points in a 3-3 contest. Kevin Parker, Peter Jenkins and Marc Young all scored one each for Pethy, and new signing Tim Hiscock got all three for his side Nether Stowey.
