DESPITE the loss of the Splash and some swimmers who have been unable to attend the new training sessions, Bridgwater Swimming Club continues to perform well at team competitions.

The club, promoted to division two last year, faced a long trip to Bournemouth, where it was drawn against teams from much larger clubs, including Bournemouth, Bath, Exmouth, Oddicombe and Bristol Central.

The team put in some excellent swims and was ecstatic to finish third behind Bournemouth and Bath.

The second round draw again placed Bridgwater at Bournemouth with swimmers having to pull out all the stops to ensure a B Final place.

Again there were some good swims in all age groups.

The strength of the opposition was clear with only three Bridgwater swimmers, Beth Newton, Jess Barham and the under-15 boys medley relay team of Ollie Willis, Charlie Cooksley, Scott Gibbs and Matt Chapman achieving first place finishes.

However, good consistent performances ensured a fourth place position and a place in the B Final.

This will hopefully mean Bridgwater’s swimmers will consolidate their position in division two for next season.

The club would like to thank everyone who has continued to support it during what has been a very difficult time.
