The much anticipated Enmore Park Golf Club men's away day to Newport Golf Club last week was a hugely successful event enjoyed by all 24 participants.
After an early start, the coach picked up passengers at junctions 25 and 24 before crossing the Severn Bridge and arriving at the Newport GC clubhouse, where delicious bacon rolls and coffee were awaiting.
The captain drew teams of four, captain elects Craig Wright and Avalon Captain Ben Kingston and following a swift visit to the practice green, battle commenced.
The course was a delight and in great condition, with lovely views. The greens were receptive, quick, and a pleasure to putt on.
At the end of the day, the deserved winners were Lee Lewis, Colin Galbraith, Barry Woodman, and John Payne, beating Rob Fear, Dan Anderson, Dave Clayton, and George Slater into second place.
After the golf, everyone enjoyed the superb hospitality of Newport Golf Club, including a delicious meal while socialising, having a few drinks, and listening to the tales being regaled in the bar before an entertaining journey back to home turf! The away day was a huge success and enjoyed by all.
The Ladies Autumn Meeting last Wednesday attracted 36 entrants who played with determination through the challenging wet weather, competing for three trophies, signifying the end of the competitive golf season.
The Barrington Bowl was awarded to Mel Miller, who scored a fabulous 38 points in Division One, and Wendy Walker, who came in second with 35.
The Division Two ladies competed for the King Cup, which was won by Suzanne Bromme, who also scored 38 points, ahead of Lorraine Taylor, who scored 36.
The 9-hole Leffman Bowl was awarded to Ann Morrison, scoring 17 points, while in second place was Carol Robinson with 14, followed by Christine Pashley. with 13
Lady Captain Tina Morgan was delighted to award prizes to all the worthy winners accompanied by Ladies Committee President Heather Saxton.
Enmore Seniors travelled to play against Honiton, where everyone enjoyed a round of golf. However, the home side ran out winners 3.5 to 2.5. The winning pairs were Tim Smith and Keith Norcutt and Jess Lawrence and Jess Saunders, while Chris Willsteed and Les Dewdney halved their match.
The Seniors were also in action at Tiverton, losing 6-0.
Enmore hosted the Brainwave Golf Day, at which the winners were James Shakespeare, Daniel Neal, Chris Holdsworth, and Dave Henderson with 95. Fiona Pinsent, Max Zilch, Sam Johnson and Dylan Riley were second with 89, one ahead of third-placed Ian Smith, Ian McGown, Craig McGown and Richard Hatcher, who returned with 88.
