Filton's Giuseppe Licata has added another Carlsberg Marstons Matchplay title to his name.

He triumphed at the first extra hole over Mark Singleton, clinching his sixth trophy in the competition.

The final four contestants lined up on a windy yet dry day at Brean, chosen as a neutral venue for the semi finals and Final.

Three of the participants were from Somerset clubs, while Licata was the only one from Gloucestershire to make it to the semis.

The first match featured former Brean professional David Haines against Singleton, from Wheathill, with five out of the first six holes won by the latter.

Singleton solidified his position, maintaining his lead until they shook hands on the 14th green.

The second semi final saw Licata go up against Cannington assistant pro Scot Bellinger.

In between the back and forth match, key excellent putts by Licata and Bellinger’s bogey at the 15th hole allowed Licata the room necessary to close out the match with a beautiful approach shot at the 16th.

The afternoon set off with Singleton finding water at the 1st hole.

Despite losing the 6th and 7th to Singleton, Licata managed to square the match with a birdie at the 8th, heating up the competition.

The remainder of the round presented likelihoods for both players to win holes, with the score remaining levelled throughout the tie.

Much like the morning's play when Singleton bogeyed the 15th, enabling Licata to take the hole, the 16th wasn’t favourable to Licata, who ended in the water, thereby allowing Singleton one up.

With both players unable to win at the 18th, the match went into extra holes.

The outcome was a deja-vu; Singleton found difficulty at the 1st extra hole and Licata seized the championship on the 19th green.

With only a one-hole difference at best, both finalists demonstrated some high-quality golf.

Meanwhile, Bellinger claimed the third place after defeating Haines at the last hole of the 3rd and 4th place playoff.

The organisers extended their special thanks to Carlsberg Marstons for sponsoring the event and to Brean Golf Club, along with G&S PGA chairman Andrew March, for their hospitality in hosting the Finals Day at their venue.

With such a tightly fought and entertaining competition, Licata's sixth victory in the Carlsberg Marstons Matchplay surely proves his dominance in the event.
