NEWLY promoted Spaxton opened their Division Three campaign with a three wicket victory away from home against Street, where all credit must go to the ground staff who’d done a valiant job to prepare a pitch and outfield to host the game.

Spaxton won the toss and after opting to field first opening bowlers Adam Richards and Tim Hill got them  off to a great start reducing Street to 36 for three after 16 overs.

Street continued to find runs hard to get and had edged to 76 for four after 33 overs before Dave Pople and Dan Andison claimed two wickets each as Street ended their innings on 10f4 for eight.

Pople ended with two for 13, Richards two for 14, and Andison two for 15.

When they replied Spaxton found themselves 21 for two after seven overs having lost both openers Dan Richard and Ryan Gamblin cheaply.

Despite the small total Spaxton were going to need to work hard which is exactly what Hill and Dan Andison did and took the total onto 53 when the latter was out for 19, followed by another wickets soon after.

The visitors found themselves 51 for four when the watchful Hill was joined by the enthusiastic Richards and the pair of them steadied the ship coupled with some impressive striking putting the away team in touching distance as the score accelerated to 89 without further loss in the 21st over.

However when Hill was dismissed for 19 followed by Richards for a fluent 32 which included six fours, it was left to Captain Pople who remained unbeaten on four  and Zach Webber to inch Spaxton over the line for a three wicket win.

Spaxton return home on Saturday when they host Wellington. A huge thank you to Nick and the team from Foresport Fencing for their continued support of the team and for last years ball stop netting installation.
