Division One South West: Bridgwater United 2-1 Swindon Town

AT the weekend, Bridgwater United Women put in a strong performance to defeat Swindon Town at home.

In the match in the FA Women's National League Division One South West, it ended 2-1 at Fairfax Park.

The first half was goalless as both sides were a little cagey and not wanting to make a mistake that led to a goal.

But in the second half it opened up and Swindon made the most of their first chance in the 50th minute as they made it 1-0.

However this didn't deter Bridgwater from pushing high up the pitch and chances were coming for the hosts as they gained control of proceedings.

They got an equaliser when Ellie Bishop scored what was a really well worked goal and there was plenty of time remaining to chase the winner.

But as the clock winded down it looked as though it could end a draw, however Fi Barry had other plans.

Late in the match she launched a wonder strike from range to find the back of the net and send Bridgwater in front.

The hosts held on for the win and now sit in seventh place and take on Torquay United on Thursday, March 14.
