Division One South West: Maidenhead United 2-1 Bridgwater United
BRIDGWATER United Women were beaten in a tense battle away from home against Maidenhead at the weekend.
The match in the FA Women's National League Division One South West ended 2-1 in favour of Maidenhead but Bridgwater put up a good fight.
The poor weather forced a venue change for this match to be played on 3G and this perhaps suited Maidenhead.
In the first half neither side was able to break the deadlock as it was a very close matchup between two sides desperate for three points.
Maidenhead United had chances to score but the Bridgwater back line were able to defend well and at the other end of the pitch it was much of the same.
The hosts managed to score against the run of play half way through the second period on the counter attack.
However Bridgwater cancelled that goal out almost instantly as Ellie Bell struck from the edge of the box to find the bottom right corner.
The difference in the end was a well executed free kick from Maidenhead late on in the match that was pinpoint and headed home well to make it 2-1.
Bridgwater pushed for a second equaliser but were unable to find it and the match ended 2-1 to Maidenhead.
