Bridgwater United captain Jake Llewellyn says they want to beat their record-breaking run in the FA Vase.

The Robins reached round five last term in only their second season under their current name, and as Bridgwater Town when they reached the same stage of the competition in the 2004/05 campaign.

Bridgwater travel to Wiltshire to take on Royal Wootton Bassett this afternoon (Saturday) and Llewelyn is targeting more history for the club.

“It’s a really big game. The last few years we've had bit of glimpses of FA Vase, like getting into the last few rounds,” he said.

“So I think it’s a big game for us. We want to beat our record-breaking run last year, we got the last 16 last year, eventually losing to the winners. We want to get to that quarter-final.

“We want that feel of getting close to Wembley, so we've got to go again Saturday.

“But the games just come thick and fast, so we just got to keep going really, it’s hard but keep going and try our best again.”

Bridgwater have improved in each of two seasons in the competition after reaching the four round two years ago before going one better last year.

The Robins were beaten 5-3 on penalties, after a 2-2 draw, against Tunbridge Wells in the 2021/22 season before reaching the fifth round last campaign, which ended in a 1-0 defeat against Ascot United.

And Llewellyn says they are motivated to go out and do one better this time around.

“Yeah, so, last season we beat our record by one round,” he added.

“So, again, our motivation is to do better than last season. Once you get to that quarter-final stage, I think it's national as well, so we can get a good journey, maybe up north somewhere, and have a good team bonding session there.

“But it's to beat that record first and foremost, then just see how far we can go really. But we have got to win Saturday first before anything, so Saturday's a really big one.

“I've heard good stuff about Royal Wootton Bassett, so, it's not gonna be easy going there. We go again Saturday and, hopefully, with the fans behind us."
