Division One South West: Bridgwater United 2-0 Maidenhead United

BRIDGWATER United Women bounced straight back to winning ways on Sunday (September 24) after a defeat last time out.

The Robins were victorious 2-0 over Maidenhead United in the FA Women's National League Division One South.

There was a return to the starting lineup for Fiona Barry and both Lexie Watts and Georgina Hunt were given league starts.

In the opening exchanges, Bridgwater looked the stronger side as they kept possession well and restricted the visitors going forward.

Seven minutes in though United were forced into an early change as Barry went down injured, she was replaced by Ellie Bishop.

Bishop made an immediate impact as she got herself on the ball and got forward but Maidenhead did well to send it out for a corner.

In the 11th minute Bridgwater were in front though after a mix up at the back resulted in an own goal from Maidenhead.

The away side did create some chances for themself but none looked too threatening as the final pass missed the mark or a shot went wide.

In the 34th minute, the ball was nicely layed off to Bishop but she took too long to have a shot and the keeper blocked it.

That meant that at the break the score was 1-0 in favour of Bridgwater United.

Early in the second half, Rebecca Moises was brought on to replace Ellie-May Bell.

And in the 47th minute Bridgwater doubled their lead as Chloe Snook after she found space in the box to unleash a quality shot into the corner.

Soon after there was a lengthy stoppage as a Maidenhead player suffered an injury and was down for a long period.

Bridgwater made another sub shortly afterwards as Lily Charles came on for Taylor Ford.

In the 69th minute Bridgwater should have gone further in front after Bethany Everson got forward and squeezed the ball past the keeper but it went narrowly wide of the post.

Later on there appeared to be a third goal as Bishop had the ball in the back of the net but it was deemed offside.

That mean the final score was 2-0 to Bridgwater and another solid win at home.

Up next for Bridgwater United Women is a visit to Southampton Women on Sunday, October 1 in the FA Women's National League Plate.
