North Petherton CC 130 / All out (41.1) lost to Wellington CC 148 / All out (38.4)
WELLINGTON Cricket Club have won the WEPL Somerset title after remaining unbeaten throughout the entire campaign.
In the second to last match of the season, Wellington defeated North Petherton to wrap up the championship.
In the match against North Petherton, the home side won the toss and chose to field first.
Wellington's opening batters George Ruell and Jacob Hurry got off to a slow start scoring 5 and 1 respectively.
However, batting at three and four, Tom Hazel-Evans and Sandaken Pathirana salvaged the slow start with strong scores.
Further down the order, captain Arron Campbell added a further 33 runs to help take the Wellington total to 148 runs.
The pick of the bowlers was South African overseas player Mondli Khumalo who finished with four wickets for 22 runs in his spell.
In reply, North Petherton in fact made a strong start as openers Tom Lott and Khumalo scored 38 and 23 runs respectively.
North Petherton sat at 115 for five partway through the innings and in truth looked set to upset the party and defeat Wellington.
However as champions usually do, they find a way and the final five wickets fell for just 8 runs as Wellington's bowlers were on top form.
