Wembdon CC - 2nd XI 176 / 2 (27.2) def. Middlezoy CC - 1st XI 175 / 6 (40.0)
WEMBDON CC Seconds claimed local bragging rights at the weekend as they defeated Middlezoy CC at home in Division Two of the Somerset Cricket Leagues.
Wembdon would field first, after Middlezoy captain, Pomeroy, won the toss and elected to bat.
Middlezoy got off to an unsteady start as an edge flew through the slip cordon early on.
But the batters managed to bounce back, reaching 30 after 8 overs. The 9th over would paint a different picture though, as a catch off Watts’ bowling saw Peppard’s wicket fall.
Opener Barnard building an impressive tally, he went on to score 92 runs in total and was the driving force behind Middlezoy's batting lineup.
After 40 overs the visitors had set the target at 175 for 6, helped significantly by Barnard's knock.
Anning and Bowditch came out after the break to open the batting for Wembdon, and the pair got off to a great start.
It wasn’t until the 14th over that Middlezoy’s bowling attack could make a dent when Anning was dismissed on 40, caught & bowled by Warren.
Puddy took no time at all to settle in and he and Bowditch cruised to drinks, taking their side’s total up to 120-1.
Bowditch secured his 50 while Puddy was dismissed for 49 runs, however Hasan came in to see out the rest of the chase and secure the victory in the 28th over, in a comfortable win for Wembdon.
