PROMOTION chasing Spaxton made the trip to play at Bishops Hull on Saturday afternoon where after a hard fought encounter played in a good spirit it was the home side who0 ran out the winners by 24 runs.

After being put into bat skipper Matt Chanter and Jotty Chanter launched into the opening bowlers and after six overs had raced to 52 without loss.

Spaxton slowed the rate and after 17 overs had reined the hosts back to 100 for three. Despite the high winds the game continued with Bishops Hull reaching 196 for eight after 36 overs.

The hosts added a further 20 runs to take their total onto 216 before they were bowled out with three balls of the last over remaining.Dave Pople was the pick of the Spaxton attack with three for 32.

The Spaxton opening pair Bishop and Gamblin took to the crease looking to continue their fine form and after the 10th over Spaxton were up with the rate at 51-0.

However in the 15th over Gamblin danced down the wicket to be stumped for 19 from 45 balls which slowed down the rate. Bishop then departed for 41 from 61 balls and Jeanes leaving Spaxton behind the rate on 71 for three after 18 overs.

Two more wickets tumbled leaving Spaxton needing 90 to win from 66 balls with the score 127 for five.

Prescott brought up his half century but soon after was out for 51 from 76 balls leaving skipper Pople and Mackenzie at the crease as Spaxton ended on 192 for eight, 24 short of their required total.
