Bridgwater Cricket Club’s 2nd, 3rds and Pointers teams fared well on Saturday.

At Minehead the 2nd XI performed a fine come back beating Minehead by 16 runs.

Batting first Bridgwater 2nds made a good start at Tom Bellinger (32) and Chris Skidmore (45) added 75 for the first wicket, however the rest of the batting collapsed against the Minehead change bowler as the visitors subsided to 127 all out.

In reply Minehead struggled against Ian Higgins (3-17), falling to 46 for 4 and 76 for 6, however it looked as if their skipper Dan Bowditch (31) and the experienced Andrew Stevens (42) would get the home side over the line.

A concerted effort from the Bridgwater bowlers and some fine fielding eventually turned the game in the favour of the visitors with Bellinger (2-3) and Kyran Devitt (2-26) bowling the decisive spells. There were also wickets for Chris Singleton, Callum Pope and Tom Wickens.

The 3rds fell to a 13-run loss to Taunton St Andrews 2nds in a tight game at the Wyvern Club.

Batting first the home side made 278 with Steve Jenkins (77) and Henry Graydon (73) making the key contributions.

The pick of the Bridgwater bowling was Seth Locke (2-27) and Matt Habberfield (3-37), and there were also wickets for Freddie Brewer and Tilly Bond.

In reply Bridgwater batted well, but fell just short with Ben Coombes (73) leading the way well supported by Locke (46no).

The Bridgwater Pointers started the season with an emphatic win against visiting Leigh on Mendip.

Man of the moment was left hand opening batsmen Hayden Standerwick, who carried his bat for a superb 124no.

He was well supported by Dom Court (73) and Rhys Hayward (32) as the Pointers amassed 306 for 4.

In reply the visitors were dismissed for 98 with Simon Keith picking up 4-15 and Will Rose 2-29. There were also wickets for Finn Cooke, Mike Luckes and Standerwick.

Next weekend the 2nd XI play their first home league game of the season hosting Chard 1st XI, 12:30pm, while the 1st XI visit Bedminster.
