Bridgwater United 0-1 Ipswich Town

DESPITE playing the better football at the weekend, Bridgwater United were beaten 0-1 by Ipswich Town at Fairfax Park.

It was a tense battle as both sides were committed in their challenges however the visitors made the most of a counter attack to win the game.

Right from the off Bridgwater were on the attack, and in only the second minute Jenna Markham was played in behind the defence, she showed her pace to carry the ball towards goal but her shot went narrowly wide.

Shortly after that, Markham played a solid pass through to her strike partner Sydney Hinchcliffe who beat a defender and hit a shot that just sailed over the crossbar.

An Ipswich player went down after a heavy tackle and had to receive treatment from the physio in the tenth minute, both sets of players used the time to regroup, luckily the player was okay to play on.

It was the wide players for Bridgwater who were creating chances, Bow Jackson on the right side and Nicky Potts down the left.

The pair of them were making some good runs down each wing and cutting the ball back well.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Ipswich created their first chance of the match about 20 minutes in when their winger Horwood crossed the ball across the face of the goal only for Amy Goddard to make a goal-saving tackle from behind striker King.

Only two minutes later however Ipswich scored the all important goal; their two strikers linking up to work the ball past Bridgwater's defence and Anna Grey rifled the ball high past Beth Howard in goal.

From then on Ipswich looked happy to hold their one goal advantage while Bridgwater pressed in search for an equaliser.

Markham and Laura Holden both had chances in the back end of the first half but at the break it remained 0-1 to the visitors.

In the second period it was much of the same, Bridgwater pushing forward and Ipswich defending the lead.

More chances came for the home side as they pressed higher up the pitch but every time either the Ipswich defenders would make an important tackle or the final pass before a shot would be just off the mark.

The game fizzled out with defeat coming for Bridgwater, a disappointing one for sure.
