GRASSROOTS football returns to Somerset this weekend, with the Britannia Lanes Taunton & District Saturday League’s ‘2021 Covid Cup’ kicking off this coming Saturday (April 3).

The competition is replacing regular league fixtures for the remainder of the season, and teams have been placed in five groups (ahead of a knockout phase), as follows:

Group A: Bridgwater Sports, Fivehead Rovers, North Petherton, Staplegrove Crusaders, Wembdon, Westonzoyland, Wyvern United

Group B: Creech Cougars, Galmington, North Curry, Redgate, Staplegrove Spartans, Stogursey, Wellington A

Group C: Alcombe Rovers, Bridgwater Grasshoppers, Minehead AFC Reserves, Norton Fitzwarren, Porlock, Watchet Town Reserves, White Eagles

Group D: Bridgwater Sports Reserves, Bridgwater Wolves, Fivehead Rovers Athletic, Galmington Reserves, Middlezoy Rovers Athletic, Nether Stowey, North Petherton Reserves

Group E: Bridgwater & Albion, Exmoor Rangers, Minehead AFC Colts, Norton Fitzwarren Reserves, Old Inn 98, Porlock Reserves, Wellington Reds

The opening round of fixtures (ko 2.30pm unless stated) are as follows:

THE Uhlsport Somerset County League, meanwhile, has revealed the fixtures for its Senior and Junior Cup competitions which take the place of league fixtures for the rest of the 2020/21 season.

For the Senior Cup, a group stage (with teams in seven groups) will be followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final.

Group A: Clevedon United, Nailsea & Tickenham, Nailsea United, Worle

Group B: Chilcompton Sports, Wells City Reserves, Welton Rovers Reserves, Westfield

Group C: Fry Club, Keynsham Town Reserves, Stockwood Green, Stockwood Wanderers

Group D: Burnham United, Nailsea & Tickenham Reserves, Uphill Castle, Yatton & Cleeve United

Group E: Chard Town, Middlezoy Rovers, Minehead AFC, Staplegrove

Group F: Ilminster Town, Middlezoy Rovers Reserves, Somerton Town, Street Reserves

Group stage fixtures are scheduled to start on Saturday, April 17, and run through to Saturday, May 8.

Ilminster Town v Street Reserves, Middlezoy Rovers Reserves v Somerton Town, Minehead AFC v Middlezoy Rovers, Staplegrove v Chard Town and Wells City Reserves v Welton Rovers Reserves are among the competition’s opening fixtures on April 17.

There are five groups for the Junior Cup, also set to kick off on April 17.
