Middlezoy Rovers 3, Worle 1

SATURDAY saw Middlezoy Rovers gain revenge over a Worle side that had beaten them 4-2 on the opening day of the season.

Zoy made a slow start, and found themselves a goal down inside 10 minutes, after allowing Worle’s striker too much time to turn and shoot.

The hosts battled back, with Harry Horton drawing a fine save from the goalkeeper and Charlie Bridges hitting the foot of the post.

It was Andy Smith who got the equaliser on the half-hour, heading a Liam Winter free-kick into the top corner.

Zoy then took the lead 10 minutes later, as good work from Bridges saw his cut-back strike a defender’s heel and deflect past the keeper.

Worle started the second half well and Zoy had keeper Greg Turner to thank as he superbly tipped a free-kick out of the top corner and round the post.

The hosts then wrapped up their win when another Winter free-kick was superbly headed back across goal by Jake Horsey for Bridges to volley home.

Further chances fell to Dan Luce, Alex Male and Horton - who twice had the ball in the net in the dying stages only to be flagged offside - as Zoy could and should have won by more.

Man of the match: Charlie White

Middlezoy Reserves picked up a 1-1 draw away to Saltford in Division 1, a result which saw the hosts knocked off the top of the table.

Carl Tucker’s goal secured the visitors a point, with Tom Bennett on target for Saltford.

Middlezoy Rovers Ladies suffered their fifth defeat in five South West Women’s League games on Sunday.

Tracey Cross scored the only goal of the game as visitors Bideford won 1-0.
