BRIDGWATER Town are set to face near-neighbours Wellington for the second time in three weeks tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm), off the back of encouraging results in their last two Western League games.
The Robins turned around a run of poor form that had seen them beaten by Bridport and Exmouth Town, with a 1-0 victory at home to Buckland Athletic (courtesy of Jack Taylor's early goal) and a 2-2 draw away to in-form Westbury United.
Westbury, who had won four of their first six league matches going into Saturday's fixture, started well but fell behind to a fierce strike from 18-year-old Archie Sturdy.
Sam Jordan levelled for the hosts, Taylor put Bridgwater ahead again with a fine angled shot, and Joe Stradling's 40-yard lob secured a point for Westbury.
Now the Robins prepare to host Wellington at Fairfax Park - weather permitting, as a lot of rain has fallen across Somerset in the last few days.
Bridgwater co-manager Dave Pearse said: “In our last two games we’ve gone back to being ourselves again - we’ve been much more positive, worked hard for each other and competed a bit more.
"Archie Sturdy has injected a bit of pace into the team, and he has great self-belief.
"He gets the ball on the half-turn and commits defenders, so he has warranted his starts for us.
"Mike Duffy has looked a different player, too, playing out wide.
"Those two running at people are a danger for any side."
The recent meeting at Wellington was 3-3 in the closing stages, at which point the floodlights failed, forcing the game to be abandoned - and it will be replayed on Wednesday, November 4.
"We were poor in that game [on September 16], so I hope we can take the game to them this time," added Pearse.
