JAMIE Overton says he will be "giving everything" to help Somerset win the Bob Willis Trophy, after his five-wicket haul played a pivotal role in them wrapping up a comprehensive 289-run victory over Glamorgan at Taunton on Tuesday.

Set 456 to win, the visitors were all out for 166, handing Somerset the win in their opening Bob Willis Trophy match.

Having resumed on 126-5, Glamorgan lost their remaining five wickets inside 70 minutes on the final day, with the Overton twins taking seven of the visitors' 10 second-innings wickets.

Jamie, who is bound for Surrey after eight years with Somerset, claimed 5-48 while his brother Craig finished with 2-31 and match figures of 7-69.

Chris Cooke was dismissed for 82, caught by James Hildreth at slip off Jamie Overton, and after the captain's exit there was little hope left for the Welsh side.

Josh Davey also chipped in with a wicket, and Jack Brooks finished Glamorgan off, as Jamie Overton dived to his left to hold a slip chance offered by Michael Hogan.

Afterwards, Jamie Overton said: "At the moment I am taking things very much game to game, but as things stand I expect to be here for the rest of the season before joining Surrey.

"If that is the case, I will be giving everything to help Somerset win the Bob Willis Trophy.

"I have been told that if I can put together four good performances it might lead to an England place.

"Playing Test cricket is my ultimate goal.

"It was an incredibly tough decision to leave a club I love, but I want to take the new ball and have felt myself to be a little way down the pecking order here."

Somerset claim 21 points from the match, and now travel to face Northamptonshire in their next match (August 8-11).
