THREE players who played significant roles in taking Taunton Town up to Southern League Premier level - Ryan Brett, Shane White and Matt Wright - have departed the club.

Versatile defender/midfielder White and striker Wright joined the Peacocks in 2016, helping them reach the first round proper of the FA Cup, with midfielder Brett joining the following season.

In 2017/18 Taunton won promotion to Southern League Premier South, with Wright captaining the side, and they finished second the following season - only just missing out on back-to-back promotions.

A statement on Taunton's website thanked all three players for their contribution to the club's recent success, with the Peacocks sitting on the edge of the play-off places when the 2019/20 season was terminated early in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Club chairman Kevin Sturmey commented: "While sad, it was going to happen at some point as our players are now in the spotlight and naturally offers will be made to them.

"Every year the squad has evolved before and during the season, and while we would like to keep players forever it will never happen.

"Rob [Dray, head of football] has been working so hard recently and there will be a number of exciting signings announced in the near future, along with confirmation of all the players staying.

"The future is still very bright, with lots to look forward to when non-league football is safe and sound to return in what will be a very different landscape for everyone."
