NORTH Petherton won the Somerset Cricket Board Indoor League title on Sunday after beating local rivals Bridgwater in the final.

Pethy qualified for the finals evening after topping their group with five wins from five and took on Queen Camel in the last four.

The South Somerset side batted first but were quickly reduced to 8-2 as Lewis Knight (1-9) and Scott Briffett (1-8) took early wickets.

Harry Bowditch (1-10) also struck and two run outs saw Camel finish their 12 overs on 48-5.

North Petherton needed just 5.3 overs to knock off the runs as Lloyd Irish hit 12 from five balls and brother Owen made an unbeaten 16.

Bowditch chipped in with 14 not out as Pethy lost just two wickets in pursuit of their target.

In the final, Bridgwater batted first and saw openers Stuart Butt (18) and Tom Bellinger (11) get off to a solid start.

Bellinger was caught and bowled by Owen Irish but Jon Vickery’s 18 helped Bridgy to 73-5, with Lewis Knight picking up two late wickets.

Pethy lost Lloyd Irish (3) early in reply but Owen Irish and Paul Short each made it to 26 and retired to put their side on the brink of victory.

Knight (3*) sealed victory with 1.4 overs to spare - North Petherton will now face the Wiltshire champions on February 23 for a place in the South West regional final in March, the winners of which progress to Lord’s.
